We have joined forces with the team from Climb magazine to bring you our May competition. It is a creative one this month; we want to see your ideas for our home page image. The winner will see his or hers image on our home page during June and will also win one years subscription to Britains Biggest Climbing Magazine.. Climb.

Pete wins Innovation for Extremes Award

We first met Pete last summer. Curiously we were never actually interviewing him for a job, but his Fig-4 axes impressed us so much we thought we would offer him one. Despite some confusion over his origin he has integrated himself seamlessly into our small team.. although he still hasn’t introduced us to his coffee guy. It is great to see Pete get the recognition he deserves by winning the Innov_ex award and we look forward to seeing many more of his designs in the Alpkit range.

Big Shake Out Cancelled.. for now

Put the TeePees away guys as it is with regret we have had to cancel next months Big Shake Out Event due to problems with the venue.

It seems you have all taken the event to heart and what was planned to be a relatively low key event has snow balled into something much larger. Unfortunately the site we had planned to use for the event cannot cater for this level of interest and with such short notice we have been unable to find a suitable alternative and obtain the relevant permissions. All of us at Alpkit were looking forward to meeting everyone at the Shake Out and the vibe we were getting from you was great.

Many thanks to Pyranha, Venture, Genesis, Evolv, Gibbon and Up to Summit who had all agreed to support the event, everyone who had volunteered their services and everyone who had spread the word. We will keep this mailing list open, but if you would rather remove yourself just click the link at the foot of the email. For everyone else we’ll take your enthusiasm and look to try and re-organise the event later this year. Failing that, the Shake Out will be back, bigger and better in 2010.

Paul Errington joins the Alpkit team

When we put our faces above the parapet and go unplugged we often receive many offers from people to support them and their adventures. Many fail our strict selection criteria but every now again someone pops up who is a little different. This is certainly the case with Paul Errington. After meeting with him and his bike sponsors Genesis at the Outdoors Show we knew these guys weren’t just another race team. The modern face of mountain biking is all about bounce, pads, trail centres and convenience. Paul and Genesis are really looking to put the adventure back into biking and this philosophy sits perfectly with Alpkit. Paul has some very exciting plans for 09/10 and we will be supporting Paul’s adventures with goodies to make his life more comfortable whilst he signs up to be a ‘student of pain’.

You can read more about his adventures at his personal blog site Shoestring Racing or here at Alpkit. Genesis bikes will also be at the Big Shake Out weekend in May with a full demo fleet.
