Against everyone’s best advice I insisted on lugging my entire 4kg of camera kit along the route we’d planned. Predictably we ran behind schedule, and ended up walking in darkness for a couple of hours with mist so thick we had to hold our head-torches to the ground. We finally reached the summit of Pen y Fan at about 9:30 and I dutifully got out my kit to take the summit photo (attached). That night my tent blew down and three of us had to fit in a tent that could barely accommodate two. I was wearing all the clothes I’d brought inside two sleeping bags, neither designed for outdoor use. Suffice to say that I didn’t sleep much, and I bought a SkyeHigh as soon as I got back!
