When winter walking in the mountains, either your ice-axe is inaccessible, secured to the loops on your rucksack (causing you to stop and remove the rucksack to access the axe). Or if the ice-axe is detached from the rucksack, it is not always required to be ‘in hand’. Some walkers have a habit of slipping the axe spike and shaft down into the gap between rucksack and shoulder. This can be abrasive and damaging to expensive outdoor jackets or clothing. The solution is a removeable ‘universal’ sleeve that attaches to the reverse side of a rucksack and allows the ice-axe spike and shaft to be slipped down as previously described. But prevents the ice-axe from damaging your clothing.
