Mod Tent

The MOD Flexibility is Key

After spending years in the hills and mountains all over the world one thing that sticks in our minds is the ability to remain flexible and be able to adapt to the changing environment. It is with this in mind that we designed the MOD tent. A unique design that allows you to maintain a lightweight philosophy but gives the flexibility and comfort of owning the equivalent of four tents in one.

The first is a two man semi geodesic backpacking tent, light weight and strong for filling your general needs. The second is the modbag a bivy bag with one pole for lightweight technical ascents and short trekking trips.  The third is a three or four man (or equivalent gear storage space) base camp tent giving the room required for a prolonged stay or additional people.

Imagine a trip to the Alps in summer you fly out only 20kg of baggage allowed on the plane you’re spending a month in the valley campsites with forays onto the hill so you take your two man tent to keep weight down and also your bivi bag for on the mountain. So you set up the tent add the bivi bag and enjoy the room for a month removing the bivi bag to use on the mountain leaving the standard two man tent in the valley with your extra kit perfect! The value of up to a four man tent for the weight and price of a two man tent, at the cost of only 4 extra zips!

Sorry I dont understand this. Perhaps the fact I cant view the first image is confusing me. But why would a bivvy bag sticking out the side of a tent help? Would someone go in that and jsut havetheir head poking into the tent? If thats the case whats the point in having a tent as you would not have any benefits over a hooped bivvy anyway. Seems a bit odd to me. I would liek to see the first iamge thoug hand I may understand better.

Hi, I’m in the process of trying to get the first image loaded up so hopefully that will be the case soon.

Basically if there were 1 or 2 of you sleeping in the tent you could use the tent to sleep in and the bivys to store all your gear, if you were then to decide you wanted to go trekking for a day and you needed to camp for one night before returning to the camp site you could remove the bivys and use them to camp overnight (traveling light weight). The tent would be left at the campsite where you could store all unnecessary gear.

The design means that it is also possible for 4 people to sleep in the tent if needs be.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the comment

This is a good idea, I like the way that you have the bivvy bags for more stealthy trips and having 4 in the tent could be good fun on rainy days.

Erm? You gain 2 extra HEADS in the tent, yet 5-6 feet sticking out the side? Seems like you need to turn the bivvi sacks through 90 degrees?
So they attatch at the side, not around the shoulder area. You could then have the same ish area, with a 4 man sleep option…

maybe an alternative would be for each person to to have their own 1-man tent/modbag that can be used by itself or combined in a star formation to allow for more or less users. That would divide up the weight of the tent to all users.
