Double skin pans

I have stainless steel Thermos flasks, i also have stainless steel double skinned mugs. They keep my tea/cocoa nice and warm, quite a bit warmer for longer than my friends normal china mug. But nobody makes double skinned pans (that i can see) and you’re right that’s stupid, why would you want a double skin pan?

What you really want is a pan with double wall vacuum insulating sides (and double layer/ insulated lid) and a single bottom layer (possibly copper coated/ finned to improve heat transfer) to get the heat into the pan.

Should improve boiling times and keep hot stuff hotter for longer.

Could be built in a variety of ways too.

Not that exciting but it should work

Nice idea. If you want something like this already available check out the jet boil stoves as they have side installation with a conductive bottom.

Nice idea. I have thought of this previously too and cant understand why there arent such things aorund yet. The Jot boil jsut used neoprene insulation, which is definately no where enar as effective as a vacume. You definately feel the heat through the sides of a Jetboil, and if it gets wet (from washing it) it conducts mroe still. These issued would not occur if vacume walled. You would need to make sure it is not easy to dent though. And of course it would weight more, but would definately increease insualation

The trouble is when the air in the double skinned bit gets hot in the fire it will go BANG. And not only will dinner be spoilt but you and the pan would be a bit of a mess. This is why you should NEVER stick double skinned mugs on heat. If you look at handrails that have been made of hollow section steel and hot dip galvanised or zinc coated they’ll have a hole drilled in somewhere to let the air pressure out when it is heated.
