I forgot to mention in my last review what I thought of those complaining about the colour. Firstly, sleeping bags are not like clothes or bivvy bags, and so are not designed to be seen on a mountain. They are not designed to be used during the day (obviously) and so any arguments about colour choice are redundant. Black keeps the attracts warmth and the only cases where the user will be needed to be visible are when he or she is camping - in either a bivvy bag or a tent. In both these situations the bag is not seen and so the colour is irrelevant.

Bought the PD400, have used it for 10 nights so far, very happy with the bag. Warm, comfortable, packs down well. I am just over 6 feet tall so was a little worried that the bag would be a bit small but I have no complaints at all.
As snug as bug in rug.
Alpkit sales were great I had a few questions, which were answered quickly, delivery was fast.
Happy to recommend both the bag and Alpkit.

Brought the PipeDream 600 for a cycle trip later this year. Not used it yet but did a lot of research about this product and not just £ for £ better value from what I could find £, the reviews are excellent. I was very impressed with the rating v’s weight which is important if you are touring. Just waiting now for the 13l Aitlok dry bags to come into stock. Any news?

Spent a cold, rainy weekend on Dartmoor in my new PD400.

With its high-lofting goose down fill and almost frictionless lining, it feels like being wrapped in love, but with none of the baggage (it packs real small and light).

It’s surprisingly roomy for a lightweight bag too.

I don’t mind it only coming in black - those complaining that it marks easily should be more concerned about going blind…

Now I want a duvet just like it for my bed at home.

just purchased the PD600, at half the price of the same spec RAB it was well worth it! Quality is fantastic and the inner fabric is super cool and a nice suprise! Packs down very small but is an effort getting it into the small stuff sack, its like trying to pack a self inflating ballon! The loft is fantastic! Overall great product and amazing service! I ordered at 1pm and it came the following morning! thank you Alpkit!

Bought the PD400 bag a few weeks ago and have used it wild camping in the Scottish highlands for around 8 nights with temperatures below freezing and sleeping on a 3/4 lightweight self inflating mattress, always been warm apart from a couple of times waking at 0300 to do up the neck baffle/ hood, the -3C rating seems an accurate rating.  A better sleeping matt + silk liner would probably improve the perfomance a few degrees.  Very lightweight bag and packs down small, a great product giving fantastic value for money.

I bought my PipeDream 800 last month to use in anger on an Everest base camp trek.

Pros very very light, can compact down to a very small size.  The bag is warm and with a inner liner and outer liner it is very very warm.  I think the quality of the product is fantastic and the customer service excellant.

Only con is that there is no anti zip snag.

Thanks for a great product.

My PD 400 has just arrived and I’ve been playing for the last half hour. Looks pretty good. No problems with catching zips, the hood’s not perfect but much better than I was expecting and contrary to popular opinion it goes in the stuff sack a doddle. Just give it a quick roll to get the air out. Weight and pack size are perfectly acceptable. I’m 5’8″ and the fit’s about perfect so I wouldn’t like to be over six foot in it though.

I reckon it’ll be warm with the snug fit and all and without even trying it I’m sure I’d get away with some winter trips in the right clothes.

Got a climbing trip to Sputan Dearg planned for the end of April so it’s first proper go will be under the Shelter Stone. Roll on.

£150? Hell yeah.

I had the PD800 on pre-order and am extremely pleased I opted for this bag. The outer Toray material is very soft with the inner Toray material being super soft - so comfortable!
The side baffles stop the down from sinking to the bottom and there’s a baffle that follows the zip to keep the warmth in as well as around the neck. I didn’t have too much success getting it into the stuff sack and the compression bag shape is a little bulky for attachment to a rucksack but my solution is a Sea to Summit Event waterproof compression bag - both 10 and 14ltr (with liner) work fine.
I particularly like that the bag zips are full length rather than 3/4 and there’s 2 zips so if the toes get a bit warm you could just open up that area.
The only down side is the zip snags too easily - you can get cold quite quickly when stripped down and can’t get the bag to close.

Features at a glance

  • Storage - Each PipeDream bag comes with 3 stuff bags; a 4-way compression bag, lightweight stuff bag and a cotton storage bag.
  • Quality Components - All of component parts of the PipeDream are of the highest quality, YKK zips, Duraflex buckles and accessories.
  • 750 Fill Power Down - We use 95/5 750+ (European scale) fill power Chinese white goose down, the highest quality down available in China suitable for the purpose.
  • Lightweight Shell - The fabric used on the PipeDream is made by Toray, one of the largest and most respected mills in Japan. It weighs a measly 29gm/m2 yet the weave is down proof.
