With the PD 6OO it`s quite possible to get it in to a 8 LT drybag, either Xtra or normal. What you have to do is put the PD 600 stuff sac inside the drybag, and then start stuffing the bag in, obviously take your time and squeeze as much air as possible out as you go. Every now and then push the stuff sac to the bottom of the drybag. When your done, do up the stuff sac and just do up the drybag as normal.
I bought my PipeDream800 last xmas to be used this Oct in Himalayas.Everyone else but 2 on trek hired.Tooo hot at low camps & just threw it unzipped over body.On the highest 2 camps at Lobouche & Gorak Shep it came into its own when everyone else had down jackets on in their bags,I just had merino top & leggings.Luvly toastie! Thanks guys for great service & the best bag I have ever slept in.PS the porters roped a tin of kerosene on top of my bag on the way down from Pheriche & it leaked all over it!!Hung it up in conservatory for a week & all trace of smell has gone!
Chris Townsend rates the PipeDream 800 in his TGO round up of Winter Down Sleeping bags.
Got a 650 PD, Perfect bag for UK hammock life (Hennessy Ultralight ASym)d with a sleeping mat (down to 3deg) when combinine works well with event bivvy bag and sleeping mat combo.
Light, strong but super soft to touch. Feature rich. Plus great service and a trully brilliant web site. Ethical Mofoz!
Excellent!
I heard about Alpkit through Alistair Humphreys,
You guys offer such good quality stuff and the right price for a change!
The Pipe Dream is great for me, you all know the technical details but I will say the build quality is great and it’s roasting! ![]()
Keep innovating!
Just received my second PD600. As always, great service and speedy delivery. Thanks.
Hi,
Can’t fault the speed of the delivery for my pipedream 600, very efficient. But I have noticed that there are some loose thread where the stitching doesn’t appear to be tied.
If this is just cosmetic then it shouldn’t be an issue. I would be interested to here if anyone else has had an issue with this. I know the bags are good value but 150 quid is still a 150 quid.
Regards
Bought my PD 400 for backpacking trip to Western Isles last year where its extra warmth for same weight of my old Vango Venom 300 was much appreciated. Originally I got an ME Xero 250, but thanks to ME’s odd sizing std was too small (i’m 5 11) this meant I need the large, pushing weight into PD 400 area - hence no brainer for price difference.
I now have a Rab Neutrino 200 I got off ebay (£100) for light weight use as my main critism of PD400 is its too much for alot of Summer useage in UK (inc highlands) - come on guys lets see the PD 300 and PD 200! These bags are great value for money, but IMHO they are not of same quality as offerings from ME/Rab etc, but you will pay alot more with them for small gains in performance. Stuff sack needs to be sorted out too - this is not hard. Stop supplying the compression sack and make the light weight one more useable, its far too small so why no supply one of you own air lock bags. I use a Sea to Summit small non water proof bag that’s just about big enough and very light.
I have just returned from a six week trip to East Africa with my new pipedream 400; it was the perfect sleeping bag; small and light enough to carry when temperatures were 40C + yet warm enough when sleeping on the shoulder of Mount Kenya in sub zero temperatures.
The only trouble is, after 6 weeks straight use, it stinks! :D
‘Best lightweight down bag’ Trail Magazine, March.. Graham Thompson says.. “The PipeDream 800 is a well-established winter sleeping bag that is insulated with down for maximum efficiency, and therefore minimal weight and packed size… if you don’t mind buying online and are prepared to wait for stock to arrive if necessary, this is a superb option if weight and price are important.” Get a copy of Trail to read the full review!
