I’m so sad that these have been discontinued! I’ve had a pair for almost 6 years and they have been brilliant, they were only about 30 quid when i bought them and they have just lived and lived! I wore through the metal tips after a couple of years of abuse, but no problem, I ordered replacements and they lived on! Then after another year the foam grip began to slip under pressure, but with superglue and some gaffer tape they were fixed again. Before a big expedition i replaced the lower part of the pole because I had accidentally gotten grit inside the telescopic part and this sounded unhealthy! (a cheap pair of leki pole ends actually fits them)They then survived more than a month of continual hammer in the Arctic, over endless moraines which threatened to grit them up and glaciers, where i then used them to help anchor the tent. They were absolutely essentail to help carry a heavy rucksack and pulk; i dread to think what state my knees would have been in without them! I’m very sad that I’ve now retired them, alpkit, you really won wih this product and i’ll love them forever!
Within hours of buying these I had messed one of them up. I returned them to Alpkit and they fixed it for me at no charge. Famtastic, friendly, helpful people.
After a couple of years light use I had a problem with the poles not locking. Got in touch with Alpkit and they took them back and repaired them. Excellent customer service and FOC which was a bonus. The poles are also very good!
Bought 4 poles as I have purchased a fair amount of kit from Alpkit and have always been very happy. However sadly on our first outing my colleague and I took 2 poles each and with only light use 3 out of the 4 poles failed. First they locked into position then lost all lock and just slid up and down. Others don’t seem to have had any problems so maybe we were just unlucky. Good customer service however when we reported the problem.
Poles are very light and comfortable but made a mistake getting the cork handle version one handle split around the circumference and had to be glued and both detached and slid down shaft again had to be glued. I have now lost a tip of one pole and see you are out of stock for replacement all in all not very happy with product which is not the experience I have had with the other products I have bought from Alpkit.
Cheers.
Dave Allan.
Recently took Carbonlites for some winter walking in the Polish High Tatras - the poles had 5 days of abuse being planted in thigh-high snow and icy tracks. No complaints from me, (and carbon meant no freezing cold poles to handle) and while I’ve not tried other poles I wouldn’t hesitate to reccommend Alpkits’ Carbonlites for slighter folk. (I weigh 60kg). Certainly a good bit of kit at a great price for those wanting to give poles a try. And they look good.
“Verdicts in” the poles are good and compare favourably to the Leki Carbon units. My girlfriend is ‘over the moon’ and we have been on two fairly heavy Treks in the Comeragh Mountains over here in Ireland already. I have tried them and they do exactly “what is says on the pole” Excellent value for money…
Ordered on Monday, arrived on Tuesday, tested on Tuesday.
Light.
Easy to adust hight.
Snow baskets for the winter mountains.
More importantly I have been recovering from knee injuries and the poles are aiding my recovery ten fold.
cheers alpkit
The poles look and feel great and after a quick wintry ascent of Blencathra via Sharp Edge, they perform well too. I bought these for my partner and while I’m no big fan of poles, after trying them out, I’m ordering a pair for myself! They are so light, that on descending rapidly, you can reposition them quickly and with less effort, enabling the user to travel faster and safer on uneven ground.
Good product with the usual great service,
Thanks.
In the Himalayas yes, you would need hiking boots. Basketball sneakers are not going to cut it, especially when you are carrying a backpack.
