I just wanted to leave a not about the new waterproof jeans.
I was one of the lucky few to order a pair of these in time. Pretty pissed i didnt order two pairs now though.
I actually waited for the rain to get worse before walking to the station in them. They did a cracking job, no longer will I have the wetter tops of my jeans/trousers you usually get from the rain running off my hardshell onto my legs.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed how low down the leg the articulated knee was? I’m a pretty tall guy (6’4) and it was still well below my knee. I appreciate the longer looser boot cut jean but is the articulated knee necessary except for aesthetics?
The only bit I could comment on in even a vaguely negative sense is the label on the waistband on the rear left occasionally rubs.
All in all I’m very impressed with them. I was pleased to find out that I could control my iPod jog dial through the pocket too - something I cant do through my other jeans.

Pretty much the same experience here. I got one pair and now wish I had more.
They’re just incredibly useful when you’re heading outdoors at this time of year and just mean that you can wear the same clothes in the Peak as well as in the pub.
I’ve not climbed in them yet - the insides of the jeans feel more ‘rubbery’ than the outside and it felt like they might be a bit clingy. Though they’re not in normal use. The other slight features is that they are noisier than normal jeans - and can rustle a bit whilst you walk.
Fit wise they’re fine - I’m 5’9” and have the 32” length and don’t find that the knee is in the wrong place. Waist band is fine.
Overall I think that if you put them into production then you’ve got a huge hit on your hands. I’ll certainly buy another pair.

I know I’m being a bit anal here but I think the post title is misleading to other people: these are NOT waterproof jeans, and Alpkit does not claim they are. They are water-resistant. Anyone who buys these expecting them to be waterproof will be disappointed.

Maybe I’ve got funny length legs but when I squat or bend my legs back, the articulated knee rides up to the right place.
Is this not the case with other people? How are they actually supposed to work?
I’m starting to worry about my leg dimensions…maybe I’m a freak of nature?

I’m really very impressed with the waterproofing treatment on these jeans, I was wearing them while washing the car and them when I tipped a load of T-cut on them and after hosing them down while wearing them and they remain waterproof; Very impressive as T-cut is able to take the top layer of paint off a car.
I find the leg length a bit long and the boot cut slightly wide for more active uses, but as someone else commented, the articulated knee is in the correct place if you are stepping up high while climbing or squatting down.

Got a pair for the very good low price - even at £55, they’re pretty good value.
I like the boot-cut ish design, personally I’d prefer them to be a little more fitted around the top/arse/waist. I’d also have them slightly lower on the waist (more hipsterness). They’re quite relaxed all over which is the idea I suppose. The diamond crotch does allow a lot of leg movement although as they are relaxed, this may have been the case without it.
I might be letting them go a bit low as I could have done with a 32/35 (not 34) - that would explain why I think the crutch is a bit low.
There’s very little of the ridiculous faux warn out patches that many jeans have - these just have a subtlety warn look. Personally I’d go for 0% warn / constant colour - but they certainly don’t look like they’re trying too hard.
The denim has a nice feel - a bit curious, maybe slightly waxed. You get the feeling they don’t quite breath as much as standard jeans but not enough to feel sweaty. They feel a little warmer than normal jeans I think. You feel a bit more protected.
The water resistance is REALLY impressive. Water really beads off it. Great to demo - you can pool water in divot of material and pour it out! None soaks in! you have to push the water into the fibers to make the fabric ‘wet’! I haven’t been in a major downpour yet - but a little shower caused them no problems of-course. I’ll comment again when I’ve really pushed them!

Got my jeans in the post this morning. Wow.
Style wise they’re ace, the usual AlpKit attention to detail. I especially like the stitching on the back pocket. They’re a great fit (I like the flared bottoms).
Haven’t had a chance to use them properly yet but running them under the tap kept me agog for at least 10 minutes, they’re like voodoo! The only thing I don’t like is the slightly waxy feeling on the inside of the jeans. I guess there’s not much that can be done about that, and it would probably wear off after a few times wearing them and washing them.
Wicked product overall, glad I managed to get some!

Got my jeans today - superfast shipping as ever, impressed so far, chemical smell on opening the bag but nothing major, Have worn them this evening to the QE2 leaving celebration - no rain (un)fortunately but anyhow first thoughts are:
Good
Look like proper jeans
Nice baggyish fit - comfy to move in
Nice feel to the denim material
Knee articulation rides up fairly well when kneeling down/clambering
Spillage (of beer) ran down front as hoped
Girlfriend tells me she wants some ladies ones as they look really nice
Not so good
Not sold on the text on the back - I haven’t got a car to drive to any mountains
Shoes have beer in them
Girlfriend keeps pestering me about when you will do ladies ones
Will now give them a serious test over the coming month and report back, prob take them out walking and some light cycle commuting/pub rides in the near future as well as use them for christmas shopping in the wet, am impressed so far.

Outstanding!
Jeans arrived very rapidly (as usual) and other than the previously mentioned slight Chemical smell out of the packaging they look perfect. Testing by walking the dog in showers proved no problem (even a vigorous hosing on return to remove mud splashes around the hem proved no problem) The missus liked the look of them, not too sure about the detailing on the rear pocket but then i don’t have to look at it!
The only slight niggle is the lable on the inside on the beltline, without anything tucked in to protect your back the lable tends to chafe a little (nothing major and it may go as the jeans are washed) If they are as hardwearing as they feel and retain the water reppelancy i’m sold on them, i can see me getting more of these WHEN they go into production.
A WINNER!

I didn’t manage to order any in time so I’m adding my vote here for a ladies pair. (Though I’ll happily wear a mens if only those go into production!)
If you do make a ladies pair, please dont stitch flowers onto them:)

Took my jeans on stroll round Llyn Idwal in the rain/sleet the other weekend. Completely waterproof when crossing stream.
Slipped and ended up with a muddy knee. Amazing! When brushed with a damp glove the mud just flew off the jeans.
Went to pub in them on Friday, felt out of place only because most people were wearing walking gear.
Went climbing in them on indoor wall on Sunday & Monday, comfortable to climb in although articulated knee well below knee level.
The only bad thing I have to say about them is they didn’t improve my climbing style, but I guess that’s too much to ask.

Agree with all that’s been said. Great jeans, hope that the rubbery feel to the inside will wear off. The easy answer to the label problem, cut it out, no more itchiness! The fit is very comfortable but I find the cut in the leg too wide, causing a certain amount of excess flapping and noise.

great pair of jeans
got them a few weeks ago, ive climb indoor in them and they better than prana cimbing jeans. Plus i cycle in them too and no problems there, can’t wait till spring, to test them out grit stone. the only thing i would change is the cut of jeans, just abit too baggy.

First time out up in the pennines above Haworth it chucked it down and they stayed dry despite the usual run off.
Every-time I put ‘em on since the sun comes out - brilliant!
I like the cut, very comfortable but there’s a lot of material to cope with when they are crammed into gators - my bro wants to test ‘em yachting - can I have another pair please - soon.

Bought a pair when they were first released and really pleased with them.
Fit and Style are great, looking just as good as anything you can get from Gap. I was worried the waterproofing might degrade after a couple of washes, but they are still nice and water resistant with the water pilling up and running off.
As a major test I did a 12 mile walk in these, and while it didn’t rain, they remained comfy and to my surprise they are quite breathable. That said, if you’re sitting around with no wind to wick away the moisture I find they can get a bit clammy (found this out just wearing them to work in a hot office).
The only thing I don’t like so much is the plasticy feeling on the inside when you first put them on. It’s not noticable after a while, but I would like them a little softer. Though I imagine it’s not possible with the technology yet.
Overall and A from me. Good price and good range of sizes too for the first run.
Cheers
T
