You have a great idea but where can you source your materials for that prototype? Here are just a few companies that supply off the shelf materials and fabrics suitable for outdoor products..

Point North
Pennine Outdoor
Seattle Fabrics

Thruhiker Just ordered some lovely Dyneema X Gridstop for some lightweight bike panniers I’m gonna make, get it while it’s hot, this stuff sells out pretty quickly. They also have some SpinnTex EXP which is very lightweight and waterproof, nice for ultralight tarps etc. Only downside is the shipping’s quite pricey.
Rainshed are selling 2 layer eVent but it’s pretty heavy fabric, doesn’t drape very well and looks to be seconds as there’s a few patches that seem to be under coated. Having said that you just can’t find it normally so themz da breaks; I’m going to make some uninsulated gloves out of it and see how I go.
Rockywoods have some exotic stuff like Kevlar, NOMEX, Spectra woven Nylon and crazy light Cuben Fibre too. Can’t think of a lame excuse to order any of this just yet so not sure what the service is like.
Like the other guys said, don’t be afraid of the sewing machine; I knocked up a bivy bag in an afternoon that’s only 250 grams, packs down small enough that I could put it in my jeans pockets and only cost about 25 quid. I’d never sewed before and now I’m hooked!

Anyone spotted a UK source for suitable material for a MyTiMug cosy?
Or better yet, any of you Alpkit guys want to make it and sell me one?
Oh, and when that works, I’ll have one for the MyTiPot too…

Requirements:
1) Insulating
2) Doesn’t get trashed by hot-from-the-cooker titanium
3) Doesn’t trash (ie. stick to..) hot-from-the-cooker titanium.
4) Lightweight - an oz or two?
5) Bulk unimportant if it can be put around cup/pot in a pack.

Cheers,
Rob
