The ultimate lightweight stove? This classic home made lightweight stove uses your regular fizzy pop can and weighs in at just 10g! Wikipedia explains the theory of the beverage can stove, but many sites such as Zenstoves or Cobra stove offer instructions for making your own.

I’ve made more lightweight stoves than I should have but my favourite is the Penny Alcohol Stove (http://www.csun.edu/~mjurey/penny.html) and that’s not just because it has the somewhat engaging word ‘alcohol’ in the title. It’s a clever piece of kit that just lasts and lasts. It’s so darn light that if I’m the only person on the hike taking a stove, I’ll take two of the little devils just to be on the safe side (both fit inside my brew mug).

I was never happy with the pot stand so I designed / made my own using a disposable barbeque tray (http://www.outdoorsmagic.com/gallery/images.asp?sp=&v=1&UAbN=2323).

Then I wasn’t happy with the stand (being of the weakest, naffest, lowest quality steel on the planet), so I had it electroplated by a mate of mine. It’s now far more heat / rust resistant.

From the pics, you can see my excellent <ahem> attempt at a cook pot as well. It’s actually an Ikea desk tidy with a lid that I cut from a sheet of stainless (I made one for my mug as well - it keeps the leaf litter out of my vodka). I just can’t justify an Alpkit titanium cook pot.

Yet.

Jobs a good ‘un!
