We are pleased to introduce our first CoLAB development product, the Filium Smock. An extremely simple no nonsense smock made from goosedown recycled from unsold & returned ‘Filo Runts’. This is currently a limited edition piece selling at the special CoLAB price of £40.
Size measurements vary across Europe which is why the chart below shows the actual measurements of our jackets. We believe this is useful since you can compare Filium directly with your existing jacket or personal layering system. Traditional British chest measurement are also given as a rough guide.
| Filium | S | M | L | XL | |
| UK chest size (inches) | 36-38 | 38-40 | 40-42 | 42-45 | |
| Chest width (cm) | A | 51 | 55 | 59 | 66 |
| Hem width (cm) | B | 51 | 55 | 59 | 66 |
| Arm length (cm) | C | 74 | 76 | 78 | 82 |

Bought this way back in May. But only just used it over the last couple of weekends camping. Could be a little longer on the back and not too sure about the inside pocket. But main thing it was warm. Never had a down jacket and when you go into a pub its got to be took off straight away.
Now looking at the sleeping bags.
Really like this jacket. I’ve never had a down before so don’t have much to compare to, but I always feel the cold and this really makes a difference.
I definitely like the smock shape, but along the lines of some earlier comments the neck zip could be a bit longer, especially for getting on over a helmet. Also like the side zip access for the handwarmer pocket as it stays really warm, but some sort of velcro or zip on the little inner pockets would be useful to stop stuff falling out. Can you make it in black like your other downs too?
All in though I’m really chuffed with the filium and I know a few friends have bought on on recommendation too. I’m off to buy a bleat now!
Great piece of kit for hanging round the tent on cold evenings and bunging on over a wetsuit on cold windy beaches while having a break from windsurfing.
Like the colour, wrist adjusters don’t seem to do anything but that might just be my fit.
Great Jacket, brill for sitting around camp and keeping warm between red point attempts. Just needs a hand warmer pocket
Just agreeing with a few other people here, but if you made this in a few adult sizes, but sold at a premium we would happily pay. Sleeves that are 4” to long is fine, sleves that are 1” too short is a serious problem. super long sleeves and body would be very usefull for climbers as when a ireach for a high hold I don’t want to expose my waist and wrists to cold cold wind.
Just looking at it I would preffer a longer front zip for venting.
Having the hand warmer pockets on the out side would save unzipping the sides to use them & save heat escaping! But I don’t like internal hand warmers anyway, I guess youre trying to save wieght from using extra down.. perhaps fleece lined would be enough.
I think I’ll get one when you have finished fetleing it.......

Definite need for XXL. The published sizes for XL are about normal for large for most other companies hence I’ve not bothered ordering the couple of things that interest me (filium and bleet) as they would almost certainly be too small.
Like so many of your excellent products these do not come in large enough sizes - where are the XXL and XXXL for us normal rugby playing divers - you know 1.8m + tall and big with it - several of us have admired the bleat and jackets but a few of our lady divers - interested in the bleat for wearing under a dry suit - found even the L a little on the tight side, especially the arms!
Quite willing to pay a premium for the larger sizes - go on you know you want to............
Hmmmmm… Toasty! firstly I love it and these are not faults as it is perfectly functional jacket as it. but as a prototype jacket you want feed back - heres some feedback:
It does look a tiny bit “michelin man” compared to other similar smocks basicaly due to the lack of diaganol belly zips for the hand warmer to break up the down rolls. this said using the side vents as an entrance to the pocket works really supprizingly well. I presume this also keeps the production cost down, and lets face it if I wanted a jacket to look cool whilst waiting to do a paticlarly hard route up Betws y coed high street, I would have pissed away a fortune on somthing with “N*rth F@ce” on.
Taking the zip down to the next roll would’nt cost any more but would give a bit more venting and break up the rolls a bit too?
I would personally make the (size L) sleves an little longer and the cuffs looser as the tabs are a little redundant. maybe try an integral stuff sack/pocket? would agree with others about a tab on the little pocket for keys etc.
Looking forward to finishing winter surfs climbs and hikes, then i can use it as a kind of external mug of hot chocolate! ooh make one in brown, I like brown..
From time to time we may have a shorter than normal production run or simply want to try out something new. In such cases we launch the product under the coLAB branding, usually at a very tempting price in exchange for your feedback. No membership is needed, just use the product and leave your comments on our website.
I’ve tested this out pretty extensively now- climbing trips in Lundy, Skye and camping in some pretty cold and crappy weather.
The fit is ok- a friend got a small which fitted pretty well, but the arms were a little to short, so I opted for a medium. Big mistake, it really is too large… (anyone out there want to swap?). Would benefit being slightly longer, wrist cuffs were fine, side zips goood length (but tight for chick’s hips- everyone i know feels the same). Stuff sac would be great… and the inside pockets feel scarly flimsy....
But guys! This is a top jacket and I love it! It goes everywhere with me and I’m stoked at not being cold anymore. Thumbs up!
