View Light Emitting Diode
You used to find them only in the your TV, VCR etc. but with the invention of the white L.E.D. their use has exploded into personal illumination devices. An L.E.D. is almost unbreakable and will last not far short of forever; however using the wrong voltage can easily blow them. The best original white L.E.D’s originate from Japan and although all white L.E.D’s tend to have a blue tint, cheaper copies tend to exhibit this characteristic a little more. Interestingly L.E.D.’s do not emit UV light so will not attract bugs and insects. Here’s a good link if you have a MiniMagLite® and want to convert it to run a white L.E.D.
